Breast Implants For Men

Logistics And Considerations Regarding Breast Implants For Men

There are essentially 3 reasons that breast implants for men may be desired or needed. One is in the case of a man who wants to enhance the firmness of the pectorals, to have the look associated with body builders.

The second reason is when a man is transgender or has an alternate lifestyle that is based upon having a female body type.  And the 3rd is in the case of male breast cancer.

The first type is somewhat difficult because the look of a body builder may not be achieved by altering the breasts without first building up the muscles of the arms, legs, back, and the whole body.  It may create an unbalanced look. The exception is if a man has done bodybuilding and the other muscles are firm and buff, but due to the nature of the man’s body type, the pectorals do not develop proportionately.

The second reason for breast implants for men, an alternative lifestyle, is usually easier to manage, provided the patient is firmly established in his sexual identity or the lifestyle of his choice or need.

The plastic surgeon will ask the patient why he wants or needs breast implants.  This is standard for all pre-surgery appointments, with women, men, for cosmetic or non-cosmetic procedures.

If you have been living an alternative lifestyle that is natural for you, a plastic surgeon should have no reason not to go forward with the surgery.

The exception is in the case of a plastic surgeon who is homophobic or intolerant of other’s life choices.  Unfortunately, this cannot be controlled, and the best thing to do is seek another doctor.  You may choose to report the doctor to the medical board or other governing bodies for having discriminated against you. You can most likely go forward with another doctor, who is familiar with your needs and used to doing the surgery on men and transsexuals.

You should not have the problem of discrimination by a plastic surgeon, but if you do, and you live in a small town, your best bet is to seek a plastic surgeon in a major metropolitan area.

The third type of breast implants for men are those needed in conjunction with a male mastectomy because of breast cancer. Men do get breast cancer, although not as frequently as women. The concave appearance of the chest after a mastectomy may be esthetically unpleasing to a man, or he may wish to have a balanced physique in clothing.  This surgery is done by inserting a male breast implant that matches the other breast as closely as possible.

Regardless of the reason for breast implants for men, the procedure is much like the surgery for women.  It carries the same risks as any surgery and requires a recuperation period during which the upper body will be wrapped in a bandage and the incision will be healing.

There is not a great deal of pain provided time is allowed for healing. This is usually one or 2 weeks, and does not prohibit one’s return to work if sedentary in nature.
